Can Cleaning Persian Text Change Letter Joining?

Yes. Claude Text Cleaner removes U+200C ZERO WIDTH NON-JOINER from any pasted text, including Persian. That character can deliberately keep adjacent letters from joining. The cleaner is not language aware, so keep the original and compare the output before using it in a Persian document.

Open the text cleaner

The labelled code points show the change even if your font renders the two forms similarly. The cleaner leaves the six letter code points in order and reports one zero-width character removed.

What the local report can tell you

Paste کتاب‌ها into the browser tool and click Clean Text. The output is کتابها. The report shows original length 7, clean length 6, removed characters 1, and “Zero-width characters” 1. Those are Unicode code-point counts, not a judgment that the original character was unwanted. The tool does not identify its position or restore it after cleaning.

This is a literal text transformation. A U+200C count does not show that the text came from Claude, and it does not detect or remove a model-level watermark. The same caution applies to pasted text from any source.

When to preserve U+200C

Unicode's Arabic-script chapter explains that U+200C prevents a cursive connection and gives Persian plural suffixes among its meaningful uses. Removing it can alter how the text is represented or rendered. The exact glyph shape depends on the font and destination application, so the code-point difference is the reliable part of this example.

  1. Save the original. Keep an untouched copy of the Persian passage before cleaning.
  2. Try a short sample. Read the zero-width count and compare the output with the original. A count of zero means this cleaner found no supported zero-width code point in that sample.
  3. Review in its destination. Check the result in the editor or publishing system where it will appear. For important Persian copy, ask a competent reader to review the intended spelling and joining before copying the cleaned version.

Public Farsi keyboard and Persian spacing questions show why writers ask about non-joiners. They do not establish that this site or Claude introduced one into any particular text.
